Hardware: The Album
Original Release Date: Monofunk Records 2010
Original Format: CD only Digi Pack Limited Edition

Sixteen years after its inception, Hd Substance’s seminal album Hardware is finally released digitally via his own Bandcamp page. Originally released as a limited edition CD Digipack by the spanish label Monofunk, it was presented as a continuous mix with skip marks to listen to each track separately although they were mixed together. This CD was never released digitally or available to be downloaded and has acquired some kind of cult status as a collectors item.

In this reissue you can access the individual tracks in their original form.

Original In sleeve notes:

We are living in the digital age, technology for making beats is now available for everyone, legally or illegally. All possibilities are opened and there are no limits.
There was a time when creating beats was a challenge, a risk, we only had expensive and limited machines to get the work done. I’ve found that back in those days the limits pushed me forward to create and forced me to reach my target with a primitive setup.

All tracks on this album are part of my comeback to the old school way of composing electronic music, using my old hardware machines in the pursuit of my musical desires. hence the title: Hardware.

Every musical note and sound was created between 2008 and 2009 in my Madrid Studio located in my mother’s basement. All the sequencing and sampling was done on an Akai MPC 2000 XL connected via MIDI to the following machines:

Roland Tb 303
Roland Sh 101
Roland R 70
Roland Tr 808
Roland Tr 909
Roland JD 800
Korg Ms 20
Kawai 100f
Kawai Sx240
Sequential Circuits Pro One
Moog Prodigy

Old Cv / gate Synthesizers were converted to MIDI using Kenton and Doepfer converters. All signals were mixed on a yamaha 01v Mixer and recorded straight into a Tascam DA 30 DAT recorder and Pre mastered using TC Electronics Finalizer.

All tracks are presented in a continuous mix in order to tell a story and add continuity to the songs, a club feeling. That job was done using Ableton Live 8, the mix was again recorded onto DAT, no renderings, no dithering. The DAT mix was analog mastered using valve compressors and SSL original channel strips for maximum warmth.

Not recommended to be listened to on mp3.

It’s been hard work made with care, putting all my 20 years experience in electronic dance music to serve your ears and feet.

This is dance music… Play it loud!

Hope you enjoy it.

Yours Hd Substance.
